Summer League #3 - Dulwich

A message from John Walyerch As usual with summer league no rain and glorious sunshine. I even heard complaints that it was too hot at Dulwich.

We were expecting a small contingent but by coincidence we had 51 seniors running which was the same as last year at Dulwich when it was blisteringly hot. Some people delayed putting their new house in order so they could attend Dulwich summer league and we had one hardy soul who cycled all the way to Dulwich just to run 5 miles for the Harriers!

Runners at the start line in a range of club kit. 3 QPH runners in the centre. Everyone relaxed and smiling.

In addition to our seniors of course, we had 6 superb tenderfoot runners whose efforts helped keep us ahead of the Eagles. After 2 events we had slipped to second but no more. We are now back on top but it is still close, with the Ealing Eagles breathing down our necks.

You can see all the results and times on the Summer League here so I won't bore you with positions. Our visually impaired runners and guides are looked on with awe as they navigate parks, roads and street furniture with apparent ease. Running buggies were also present and I must single out Charlie who started at the back and moved gracefully through the field pushing Ezra. Not an easy task as I am sure we are aware. And speaking of buggies, Jojo dug deep pushing Jamie to ruthlessly overtake her fellow Hoopster (Gilly) on the finish line!

Let's get on to the relays brilliantly organised for Sophie Barnard. Relay races are hard fought as we saw again at Dulwich everyone gave their all.

A 4 person relay team

A special mention to Mark Grieg and his magnificent run, and jump, dive, crossed paths with the competition and ....  lets call them...efforts to cross the line! Next stop Regents Park on the 28th July.

No excuses as it is our nearest race venue and easy to get to by car, tube, cycle or even run.

Just remember to register with me first [on the day] and give up the raffle ticket at the end.

Anyone wanting to have them as a souvenir can ask me to give them to you once the results are finalised

We will be having our Green Shop again so bring any running kit that has good life left in it and we can make some more money for our fund for good - as well as reusing kit that's just sitting in a drawer. Contact Susan Kennedy if you have kit you want to donate and can't make it to Regent Park. Summer League Dates:

  • Sunday 28th July - Regents Park

  • Sunday 11th August - Battersea - Due to junior parkrun having started in Battersea Park, the start time for Summer League has changed to 10am
