Over the last few weeks, our very own Luke has been organising Wednesday night social runs...
What is the social run?
The social run is a free weekly run organised by members of Queen’s Park Harriers. Loosely, the run is 30-40 minutes in length, and all done at a conversational pace. It starts at 7pm every Wednesday outside the Wolfpack on Lonsdale Road in Queen’s Park, and finishes back in the same place. If people wish, they stick around for a drink afterwards.
How did it come about?
We thought there was an opportunity for the club to offer something that centered the social side of running over any performance, and to create that space more than once a month! It’s styled on the offer of running crews, giving an opportunity to runners who might not feel comfortable coming to track or joining a club, but want the benefits of running and doing so in a group.
Who is it for?
Everyone! This run is open to members of QPH but also the wider running community in and around Queen’s Park. It’s free, and always will be, and is open to anyone who can run continuously for 45 minutes.
What is a social pace?
It’s loosely defined as a running pace that means everyone who turns up can talk. In the runs we’ve done so far, that’s meant paces between 6:30 and 7:00 per kilometer (or a 10:30 to 11:30 per mile).
Where do you run?
It changes week to week. Always starting and finishing in the same place, in the runs so far we've gone down to the canal, to Paddington rec, across Kilburn and locally around Queen's Park.
How do I join?
Just turn up! We set off at 7pm from Lonsdale road, but there’s usually someone waiting there just before. If you're a member of QPH you'll have access to a dedicated WhatsApp group, and there's regular reminders in the general Hoopsters Chat. If you're not a member then just turn up and introduce yourself!
